POSITION SUMMARY: The primary function of this position is to maintain law and order on the Tribal Reservation and Colony in accordance with the Tribal Law and Order Codes, 25 CFR and applicable Federal laws.

DUTIES:

  • Maintains law and order on the Tribal Reservation, Colony and other lands of the Tribe.
  • Enforces Tribal/Federal laws relating to Tribal jurisdiction and responds to incidences on the Rite of Passage campus.
  • Performs various aspects of police work including response to emergency calls, accident investigations, civil disturbances, complaints, domestic disputes, fights, drunkenness, missing children, reports of prowlers, and court appearance.
  • Cooperates with the B.I.A. Officers, federal agents, state, county and city officers in enforcement of applicable laws, specifically those in reference to violations taking place on the Reservation or the Colony, whether committed by Indians or Non-Indians, as appropriate or approved by the Tribal Council.
  • Completes police reports pursuant to Tribal Law and Order Codes or applicable county, state or city laws in preparation of court presentation.
  • Assists Tribal programs and members with community service.
  • Maintains a high visibility in patrolling throughout the community.
  • Provides monthly activity reports to the Tribal Council and keeps the Chairman abreast of important incidences occurring in the community like accidents, deaths or break-ins.
  • Performs juvenile and adult probation requirements pursuant to court assignment.
  • All other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Previous law enforcement work experience with a Tribal, Federal, County or State agency.
  • State POST training or BIA academy training preferred.
  • Ability to follow directions.
  • Must be able to pass criminal background check, drug screen and have a valid Nevada Driver’s license.
  • Must maintain confidentiality, have professional and personable attitude.
  • Must have good writing, grammar and communication skills.

· Must pass physical exam.

· Maintain strict confidentiality.

· Able to lift 40 lbs. or more.

· Possess a valid Nevada Driver’s License and be insurable.

· Pass pre-employment drug screen and complete background investigation.
